Programme Outline

Day Morning Afternoon Everning
Day 1
  • Arrival at Sibu, Sarawak and transfer to UTS campus
  • Free and easy – student check-in to the hostel
Day 2
  • Welcome session and programme orientation, campus tour and introduction to facilities
  • Photo taking session
  • Introduction to UTS
  • Lecture: Introduction to Indigenous Communities
  • Discuss the significance of their culture and contribution to nation-building
  • Sharing Session: Insights from a local champion or expert in the field
  • Cultural Performance: Experience traditional music, dance and performances by the indigenous students in UTS
Day 3
  • Workshop: Engage in food and craft demonstrations
  • Learning traditional techniques and the cultural significance behind him
  • Interactive Session: Participate in traditional cooking or craft-making activities guided by local artisans
  • Night Market Expliration: Visit a local night market to experience the local food, crafts, and daily life in Sibu
Day 4
  • Site Visit: A visit to an indigenous settlement/longhouse
  • Engage in discussions with the community and learn about their history and challenges
  • Exploration: Theories and methods in anthropology, focusing on indigenous communities
  • River Cruise: Enjoy a scenic river cruise, learning about the importance of the river in the local culture and economy
Day 5
  • Workshop: Analysis of cultural elements using basic anthropology skills, focusing on what has been observed during site visits
  • Cultural Exchange: Participants share their cultures with the indigenous community through presentations or performances
  • Free Time: Opportunity to explore more of Sibu town or engage in optional activities
Day 6
  • Dicussion Session: Reflect on the experiences and learnings from the past days
  • Discuss the future of indigenous communities and sustainable practices
  • Workshop: Final hands-on activity focused on the synthesis of knowledge gained and possible community service project
  • Certificate Ceremony: Formal event to award participants their certificates
  • Farewell dinner
Day 7
  • Free time for packing and personal activities
  • Departure from UTS and return to home country
